The Intern.
A computer program that listens to my voice notes during the week and turns them into drafts on Sunday. I approve. It publishes. That’s most of how this site works now.
What it does
- ·Listens to voice notes I send on Telegram
- ·Files them under a category (it gets it wrong sometimes)
- ·Once a week, drafts what could be published
- ·Tags posts. Picks the related list. Writes alt text.
- ·Reminds me of patterns I keep circling back to
- ·Pulls quotes for the “Notebook” sidebar
What it doesn’t do
- ·Write the prose. I do that.
- ·Publish without me approving
- ·Talk to readers. It’s not a chatbot.
- ·Have opinions. It cites mine.
- ·Make jokes. It’s bad at jokes.
- ·Run when there’s nothing to draft
Why I built it
I have 2 hours a week for this site, and five things I want to write about — memes, the apps I build, the farm I just started, case files, the rooms I end up in. Without the intern I picked one and stopped. With it, I can talk into my phone while I’m walking the olive grove and the site doesn’t go cold. That’s it.
The intern doesn’t replace the writing. It replaces the part where I forget what I was going to say.
